Kristen Stewart’s Most Classic Couture To Casual Red Carpet Moments

Kristen Stewart is known for two things on the red carpet: 1) rocking fierce, flawless fashion and 2) slipping into something a little more comfortable before the night is over.

Funny, we did the exact same thing on our prom night, except our dress was on sale at Express and not a show-stopping Proenza Schouler. The actress’ very real approach to dressing up—and down— is one of our favorite things about her. She’s publicly declared her hatred of heels and exchanges them for Chucks or Keds at just about every event (she even left the Oscars barefoot). There’s something very comforting about seeing a star deal with the discomfort of dressing up just like we do. She’s human! Isn’t that a novel thought?

Below are seven of Kristen’s best red carpet dress ups n’ dress downs. Each pic features her red carpet look and her much more casual post-carpet outfit. Is it weird that we often prefer the jeans and sneakers to the haute couture?

Taylor Lautner talks about Kristen on the Jimmy Kimmel Show

Mentions Kristen at 1.03min

"It’s very weird. Yeah, we’ve literally been filming these movies for the past three or four years. It’s strange to know I’m not going back; I’m not going to be Jacob Black anymore . . . but on the other hand, we’re going to be promoting these movies for the next two years . . . I was pretty upset myself, but I think the biggest surprise was Kristen. She’s very sweet, yes. I predicted it from the beginning . . . on the last day, it did get emotional." Tears were shed, he admitted.

Garrett Hedlund says "Kristen's phenomenal...she's so amazing" in 'On the Road'

Garrett Hedlund says filming the big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s classic “On The Road” with Kristen Stewart was an unforgettable experience.

“It was wonderful,” he told Access Hollywood at the 2011 Young Hollywood Awards on Saturday.

“It was such an incredible rare journey that we all got to take, so I’m very proud of it. My anticipation is just as high as every body else’s about it,” he explained of the film, based on the legendary beat generation novel where “The Twilight Saga” star plays Marylou and Garret portrays Dean Moriarity.

“Kristen’s phenomenal,” the “Tron: Legacy” star continued. “She’s so focused, especially on this role… she’s so amazing and the world is going to get to really see that in this one.”

The 26-year-old actor is happy that the film will finally hit theaters after taking years to get off the ground.

“I singed on to the role like four years ago and so for the last four years I’ve just been twiddling thumbs trying to get the thing made, and hoping for it to be made and so it’s finally done,” he told Access.

“On The Road” — which also features Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Buscemi and Terrence Howard — is due for release on December 10, 2011.

Photo: MK2 Magazine interview with Eric Gautier (Director of Photography) for "On the Road"

Eric Gautier, Director of Photography and Walter Salles, Director of "On the Road"

After The Motorcycle Diaries, you joined Walter Salles again for On The Road. In what way do these 2 road-trips respond to each other?

For The Motorcycle Diaries, we carefully followed Guevara's exact itinerary in Latin America. It was a trip which took the form of an opening to the world. On the road, on the contrary, is a inner journey: the destination doesn't matter, what matters is the movement, the sensory experience of drugs, sex, weariness. One of the direction's choice was to capture sensations: the cold, the heat, the fear. This meant filming the actors without makeup, very close to the faces, with long focal length. To shoot with film was obvious, because the story takes place in the early 1950s. It needed texture, grain. To transpose the novel's spontaneity, we did hand-held shooting (camera on shoulder), leaving a great freedom of movement for actors. I wanted to keep something amateur, something imperfectly controlled technically, because the beauty in Kerouac lies in the clumsiness of the language, the breaks in the rhythm.

Great interview: Sam Claflin talks about Kristen "She is THE movie star..."

You have 'Snow White and the Huntsmen,' (opposite Kristen Stewart) how did that come about?
Well, I auditioned for it a while ago, but it just became sort of official like not yesterday, but the day before. I found out a while ago but the offer was there and I'm, you know, very excited about getting sort of my teeth stuck into something new as well.

What about actresses that you've screen tested with?
I've screen tested with Amanda Seyfried during 'Red Riding Hood.' And Astrid, and I think, that's it, really.

You didn't with Kristen for 'Snow White'?
No. No. I didn't. Unfortunately not.

Wow.
No.

Have you met her?
No. I'm excited to because I'm a big fan of hers.

(I'm genuinely shocked. Can you tell?) That's crazy that they cast and you guys haven't even met each other.
It's a bit crazy.

It says good things that they think highly enough of you to hire you without basically doing a chemistry test.
Yeah,I trust the director's judgment. I mean, he seems like a genius to me,  so I think he knows what he's doing. I hope he knows what he's doing. But I've heard such amazing thing about Kristin. I have a feeling that there's no way that we wouldn't get on, you know, I'd like to think like that anyway. But she's apparently rumored to be actually amazing. I have a few friends who know her personally and one friend who did 'The Yellow Handkerchief' with her, so not a bad word said, so.

His friend who worked with Kristen on 'The Yellow Handkerchief is Eddie Redmayne, who was ALSO in 'The Pillars of the Earth.'

I used to work with her dad.
Seriously?

Yeah, so I saw her a bit when she was little, around 12 or so, yeah. And she went from being a child actor and kid's movies (like 'Catch That Kid') to where she is now.
She is THE movie star pretty much of the minute and she's incredible as well. I mean, I just recently watched 'The Runaways' and also I love her in 'Into The Wild' as well as, you know, obviously, 'The Twilight Saga' but I'm very, very excited.

Sam Chaflin on Kristen "I'm a big fan of hers...she's truly an amazing actress."

JJ: Lets talk Snow White!

SC: I’m so excited, from the very beginning of the meetings where I met with the director (Rupert Sanders), he is a genius. I was shown the artwork and some of the costume ideas and the vision. I later saw a three minute trailer that he had put together. He truly is an absolute genius. I have a feeling it is going to be a very special experience.

JJ: Are you excited to work alongside Kristen Stewart?

SC: Oh yeah, I’m a big fan of hers. Not that long ago I watched The Runaways, she’s truly an amazing actress. Even seeing her in Into the Wild, I’m a big fan and the opportunity to work with her will be amazing.

William Hurt mentions Kristen in an interview for 'TYH': "This is a young, bright, wonderful, talented..."

"She's brave as she can be and I'm defending her whenever I get a chance, and these people who say she's treating the press rudely and stuff like that, I'm going, give her a break, will ya? This is a gutsy woman. This is a young, bright, wonderful, talented, observant... You know? Let her express what she wants to express, why don't ya? Don't, you know, don't put the clamps on her just 'cause she made a big one."

Garrett Hedlund mentions Kristen at the 'Young Hollywood Awards': "...such a phenomenal actress"

Interviewer: How was it working with Kristen?

"It’s great. Everybody’s great. I mean Kristen’s such a phenomenal actress and you know I’m so happy for her. And you know...I think all of us will kind of agree saying that it was one of the best times of our lives. I mean Sam Riley, who’s playing Kerouac in this, you know incredible. James Woods on Kristen and 'An American Girl'

Rod’s gotten some great performances out of his actors in his other movies. Is that because he lets the actors add stuff, like you mentioned?

I’ve always noticed that the best writer directors, like Oliver Stone and Marty (Scorcese) writing with Nick Peleggi, Rod, the Polish Brothers…ironically the people that write are the people most open to improvisation with actors. The first little film I did, I did a little 7 minute film I wrote, and I was all for everybody trying different things because if it’s better, you know, I get the credit. One thing Rod does, one of his techniques that I absolutely love and that I’m going to borrow if I get to do this film with Kristen Stewart called AN AMERICAN GIRL, and we’re trying to get the financing but of course it’s about a woman who’s a hero in Iraq so who in Hollywood would want to make that movie? … Maybe I’ll make her a lesbian. Juuuust kidding. Just being provocative.

But seriously, Rod’s very good at—he was a critic, so he’s very prolific and voracious watcher and student of films, and he’ll often in a scene borrow a shot or an idea from another great movie. Like he says, “You can call it borrowing, but I guess I’m just stealing.” And then incorporate it and use it to kinda launch that scene. So he’ll pick just a classic shot that you might not have seen in some little foreign movie that works great for us. And I think that’s a great way to work because it's so situational when you make a movie that even if you borrow something…like the tone of our film is much like CAPE FEAR, the Scorsese version. Very big music and kind of odd in-your-face shots, very kind of expressionistic feel to this movie.

You brought up AN AMERICAN GIRL, which started all this. Is that something you’ve written also?

No, no. Tim Metcalfe, who wrote KALIFORNIA and THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT and so on, he had shown me this beautiful script that I bought called AN AMERICAN GIRL. And I called Kristen Stewart before she was famous and said I won’t make this movie with anybody but you. She was Canadian but a wonderful actress and I wanted—

Had you worked with her before?

No, but I knew her because I know Sean (Penn) and she was in INTO THE WILD. And I was talking about directing a movie called WINGED CREATURES that I felt should be cast in a certain way and I tried to buy it from the writer and it got done and it ended up going straight to DVD and the producer wouldn’t listen to me, which is fine. Revenge is sweet. [laughs] But it had a 15 year old girl in it and I called Dennis Quaid and he said I just worked with this girl named Kristen Stewart, and Jodie Foster…they all talked about how fabulous this girl was. I saw her films and I thought she was phenomenal. So I called her up and we talked for an hour. She read the script and she flipped out. If you look at her when she talks in the press and they ask her, "What do you want to do?" She always says, "I want to do AN AMERICAN GIRL. I want to do AN AMERICAN GIRL."

Are you just going to direct it?

Director-producer. She wants me to play her father in it but I don’t want to do that as well because I’ve got a lot to do already.

What’s the movie about?

It's about a young woman who’s really destructive. It's that magical time when you’re Kristen’s age, right after you're out of high school. She was the top swimmer and dive champion in school and all this stuff. Now it's a year later and she lives in a little town in Indiana and the place is dying, rust belt, NAFTA, recession, all that stuff. And she's working in a grocery store and drinking and drugging too much and she's showing off in front of this guy who likes her, and gets involved in a big sex thing with two guys drunk one night at a quarry. And it’s a big inciting incident where she gets taped doing it on somebody's phone and in a small town, her reputation is ruined and on a drunken whim, she joins the Marines, which is ridiculous. The ironic thing is that along the way she starts learning these values she doesn't expect. They're just values like you take your brother, they take care of you. It's not like she's a gung-ho Marine. She starts to sober up and then she starts to do very well and she gets into the Lioness Program because she's smart. The Lioness Program is where they teach these women to speak Arabic, so when they're in combat situations—women in the Muslim world were not comfortable talking to men soldiers but they'd talk to the women soldiers, so these women learned to speak the language and would ask if there were arms or snipers in the house. And she does it. Well, a terrible tragedy happens over there and when she comes back to the town where she was a disaster, she rebuilds her life and finds through this tragedy a greater value in herself. It's COMING HOME, BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES—it's part of that trilogy. It's a phenomenal story and a slam-dunk Oscar script for her.

It’s so not a right wing picture because everybody who reads it—Renee Missel and Jodie Foster read and Renee said, "Oh we’ve gotta call MoveOn.org. This is such a great anti-war picture." The head of the Marine Corps read it and said, "This is such a great marine picture." I said, I’ve finally done it. I’ve found the magical brew.

Why is there trouble getting financing for it?

I’ll tell you what happened. It was just before TWLIGHT came out. I want to tell you how this happened. It’s kind of a fun story. I had just had a terrible personal year. My brother died, God rest his soul, which was the biggest tragedy I could ever imagine. "Shark" got cancelled, which I was fine with because I was just working too hard. I loved the show but it was just… Everything just started happening at once. I had some surgeries. My brother had died. My mom was not doing well. I’d broken up with my girlfriend.

Praises to Kristen from Sam Claflin and Eddie Redmayne

More praises to Kristen from her TYH co-star Eddie Redmayne to his future co-star Sam Claflin for SWATH.

Found below is an excerpt of Sam Claflin's interview with Movieline

Movieline: So there was no chemistry read, you were cast separately for your roles?
Sam: No, but from my understanding she seems like an absolute legend of a girl. I have a friend who worked with her, my friend Eddie Redmayne, and he says she’s really down to earth, really talented. She’s so talented, I’m a big fan of hers. So fingers crossed there’ll be chemistry. But no, I didn’t have the opportunity to meet her, which is a bit of a shame.

Kellan's favorite 'Breaking Dawn' scene to shoot: "I would have to say the arm-wrestling scene with Bella."

Ask a "Twilight" fan which "Breaking Dawn" scene is their favorite or which they're most looking forward to seeing on the big screen, and you'll likely get a hundred different answers. But, ask a "Twilight" castmember the same question, and you might get similarly themed responses from all of them. At least, that's been the case when MTV News has approached the "Twilight" crew about the film: They all love the Kristen Stewart-as-a-vampire scenes.

Lutz isn't the only one who enjoyed Stewart as a vampire: Both Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson have admitted they loved seeing Stewart get feisty.

"We did a scene in the backyard of the Cullen house where Bella (Stewart) gets mad at me," Lautner revealed. "She just learned that I imprinted on her daughter, and she is literally throwing me around the backyard. So it was pretty fun to see Kristen try and act all tough. She's a vampire; she's chucking me across the yard into trees and stuff. It was funny."

Pattinson told us back in January: "It's like she wanted to do it the entire time. It's really funny: It's like a completely different environment onset when she's a vampire and when she's not.

Kristen Stewart's 'Snow White and the Huntsman" will not interfere with promotion for 'Breaking Dawn'

Kristen Stewart's Snow White and the Huntsman will not interfere with promotion for Breaking Dawn.

In a brilliant move by Universal, EW Reports they have moved up the release date of the film by six months! Not only does this beat rival Relativity’s Snow White (with Julia Roberts) release date by four weeks, but now production can get rolling earlier because Stewart’s availability for filming was just slightly in jeopardy.

As you Twi-Hards know, Breaking Dawn Part 1 comes out in November 18, 2011 and Kristen and Robert Pattinson will have the most promotional duties leading up to it.

Now, with Snow White‘s earlier release date, studio sources tell Celebuzz they are moving up filming at least a month to early August rather than September.

Insiders familiar with Kristen’s schedule tell us part of changing the release date was to ensure she could do the film so it wouldn’t interfere with Breaking Dawn press duties. Oh, we are also told Summit has been very accommodating as well to work around it K.Stew’s filming schedule.

Chris Hemsworth is a go for the huntsman role and he joins Charlize Theron and Sam Claflin. Sounds amazing! Snow White and the Huntsman is set for a June 1, 2012 release.

Kristen Stewart: 'Vampires are very sexy'

With the release of the final two Twilight films drawing near, Breaking Dawn beauty Kristen Stewart has opened up on her reasons for accepting the lead role, revealing she finds vampires ‘very sexy’.

Comparing vampire characters Bella and Edward to ‘forbidden fruit,’ the actress admitted she can see why the steamy script appeals.

‘Vampires are very sexy,’ K-Stew admitted to Bang Showbiz.

‘I think it's because they're meant to draw you in just to the point where they can kill you. It's like a forbidden fruit.

‘Maybe that's why I was drawn to the role of Bella in Twilight,’ she added, joking: ‘I wouldn't like to be confronted by a real vampire though, as they can read your mind!’

'Snow White and the Huntsman' gains an earlier release date - 1 June 2012

Since neither Universal Pictures nor Relativity Media are blinking about going ahead with rival Snow White films, it seemed inevitable that Universal would not be content for its film to come out six months later. So the studio has just swapped release dates of Judd Apatow's next untitled film (which was supposed to come out June 1), and has given that June 1, 2012 date to Snow White and the Huntsman. At present, Relativity Media's film, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, is dated for June 29, 2012 with shooting to begin in August. We'll have to see whether Ryan Kavanaugh's film division reconsiders.

That Tarsem Singh-directed film stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane. The lesson of rival films about Truman Capote and In Cold Blood echoes loudly here. Capote came out first, won an Oscar for Philip Seymour Hoffman, and nobody cared when Infamous came out later. Being the second film on the same subject is perilous and when that prospect faced Baz Luhrmann and Dino De Laurentiis on their Alexander the Great movie because Oliver Stone beat them to the start gate, the project was scrapped.

Universal's decision comes days after the studio finally set Thor star Chris Hemsworth as its Huntsman, which Deadline was the first to reveal would happen. He joins Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Sam Claflin in the Rupert Sanders-directed film. Apatow (who must be strutting after Bridesmaids defied expectations last weekend) will move his film back to December, 2012 on the release calendar.

Official announcement:

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, May 15, 2011 – Universal Pictures announced today that its epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman will make a bold move into the early summer movie season with its new release date of June 1, 2012. The much anticipated film stars Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron, Thor’s Chris Hemsworth and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Sam Claflin.

This breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders (Halo 3 campaign) had originally been set for release in late December of next year. With adjustments to the production timeline, however, the film will now be ready for a summer 2012 release date.

In Snow White and the Huntsman, Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the one girl threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Hemsworth) who was dispatched to kill her. Claflin plays the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power.

“As Rupert and Joe were finalizing casting and preproduction of Snow White and the Huntsman, we realized that the ambitious and fully-formed world they had promised was blowing away all expectations,” said Universal Chairman Adam Fogelson and Co-Chairman Donna Langley in a joint statement. “We’re thrilled that Universal will be bringing this singular version of a timeless story almost seven months earlier than anticipated.”
