-Salles : Sal Paradise is taken by the igniter of the story : Dean Moriarty. It's the story of a broken friendship and a book being written about it
-Salles : we tried to develop the female characters -but the scroll has much more about them than the original book published in 1957
-Kstew : I'm glad I aged a little before doing the part. As long as you're being honest there's nothing to be
-Danny Morgan : Al Hinkle was our Benzedrine teacher he told us about the drugs
-Tom Sturridge : Ginsberg's literary juvenilia is amazing, I felt very intimate with him reading this naked
-Salles : Kerouac was looking for constant improvisation and the cult of spontaneity
-Viggo brought the costumes, the guns, and improvised around Céline
-Salles : "Je considère tous les acteurs comme des coauteurs du film" #OTR #Cannes2012
(Translated: He considers the actors like co-authors of the movie)
Viggo Mortensen : Reading the book again, it's current: now there are protests by young people who carry the spirit of that time
-Kirsten Dunst : I was lucky bc Carolyn Cassady wrote a book. She was trying to live a normal life and got caught up with those guys
-Kstew : LouAnn never sold herself, she never made herself a commodity, she embodies the spirit of the book. I listened to tapes of her voice
-Kristen Stewart : LouAnn Anderson's daughter came to visit us, it was emotionally stimulating, it connected me to my character as a real person.
-Garrett Hedlund : the trip we took to SF was beneficial, I went with a notepad. We met Beat writers like Michael McLure..
-Salles : it's about the loss of innocence, that last frontier that they will find, the end of the American dream #OTT
-Salles : a group going from youth to the beginning of adulthood, who try to find the freedoms forbidden to them -they expand the limits of our culture
-Neal Cassady's son said that the book is not about the Beat Gen only but the formative years that precede
Walter Salles : I first proposed to do a documentary first so for 5 years I interviewed the Beat gen guys
-Kristen Stewart : Montreal is where we started the film, I got to live more in those 4 weeks than normally.
