New/old interview for Balenciaga Florabotanica with Savoir Flair

We spoke to Kristen Stewart about becoming the face of the Florabotanica Balenciaga fragrance and working with Nicolas Ghesquière.

Kristen Stewart might be best known for her role as Bella in the Twilight series, but her vitae speaks to her many acting accomplishments. She’s been Joan Jett and Marylou, but, to designer Nicolas Ghesquière, she is also the quintessential Balenciaga girl. Recently tapped to be the face of the Florabotanica Balenciaga fragrance, Stewart has gotten to spend time with one of her favorite brands and designers, and has worked hard to understand the essence of the Balenciaga name. She is nothing if not a thoughtful and intelligent young woman – a fact that becomes radiantly clear in this interview. When asked what she identified with most in Balenciaga, Stewart responded, “Honestly it is evocative. It makes you think. It always strikes a perfect balance between elegance and modernity or represents a stark version of either – which I love. The brand, because of its sense of very unexpected creativity, manages to really lead the way while remaining very true to its artistic initiative. I love the fact that wearing Balenciaga makes you feel unique.” For fans of the brand, it’s clear to see that she nails its ethos.

Beyond understanding Balenciaga, Stewart understands how she fits into the framework; “I recognize myself when I wear it, which is important,” she shares. The Florabotanica fragrance, which she describes as “refined yet assertive”, embodies the youthful exuberance of Stewart herself. “The fragrance is everything I like,” she describes, “it is natural, feminine, and original – three things I value very much.” For Stewart, working with a brand she admires and a fragrance she loves is an “honor”, and so is it to work with Nicolas Ghesquière. “Nicolas has a creative energy that is undeniably magnetic and very igniting, utterly contagious and inspiring. Being around Nicolas in his element is one of my most valued experiences. He is such a sweet person, so professional, and one of my all-time favorite artists. It was a very nice experience.”

For the Florabotanica advertising campaign, shot by Steven Meisel, Ghesquière envisioned a “strange garden”, one that was filled with plants both good and evil. At the center of this exotic landscape he places Kristen Stewart, whom he felt embodied all aspects of Balenciaga from its classicism to its experimental nature. It’s rare that the marriage of celebrity and product is this successful on so many levels. From Stewart’s unbridled enthusiasm for the fragrance and the brand to the transmission of the brand’s codes via the young actress, the pairing of Stewart and Balenciaga make for the perfect match

What does the Balenciaga brand represent to you and what do you like the most about it?

"Honestly it is evocative. It makes you think. It always strikes a perfect balance between elegance and modernity or represents a stark version of either. Which I love! Completely unafraid. The brand, because of its sense of very unexpected creativity, manages to really LEAD the WAY while remaining very true to its artistic initiative. I love the fact that wearing Balenciaga makes you feel unique."

How would you describe the Balenciaga woman? What’s her style? Do you recognize yourself into that woman?

"She is free. One can tap into qualities they might not know they have wearing Balenciaga. For me it’s a boldness. A very seductive assertiveness. I recognize myself when I wear it, which is important."

What is your relationship with fashion?

"I am very comfortable with it. I am usually one for simplicity and my style is casual most of the time, but I like to go just as far in the other direction. I love pushing boundaries and bringing different aspects of myself to the surface with what I wear."

How do you feel about being the face of this fragrance? To what extent is this new fragrance faithful to your personality?

"It is a huge honour for me as I’ve always loved this brand. The fragrance is everything I like; it is natural, feminine, and original. Three things I value very much."

How would you describe this fragrance? What do you like about it?

"For me the fragrance is refined yet assertive. Its floral nature makes it alive and young."

What about the design of the bottle?

"The bottle is very modern and intriguing. I’d love to see a massive structure of the same design. They really went for it; of course. I want to know what that bottle has inside it."

According to you what makes a good fragrance?

"For me, a good fragrance has to take you by surprise. Most importantly it has to be natural: aromatically and in spirit. Sometimes wearing the right scent can give you an unexpected sensuality."

Are you wearing fragrance?

"Yes. I feel that wearing a fragrance adds the final touch to your look... very nice experience."

Larry Carroll talks about meeting & interviewing Kristen on the set of 'The Messengers'

Mentions started with this interview that Larry Carroll did with Kristen for MTV on the set of 'The Messengers."

@LarryCarroll I do! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! She was 15. It was the first time I met her. In the middle of nowhere..

...on a farm in Regina, Saskatchawan. The other actors kept referring to her as "Jodie Foster's daughter in 'Panic Room".

she was so young, but everyone knew she was gonna be big. They spoke of her like she was already an Oscar winner...

a few people even seemed intimidated by her! There was a scene where she had to drive a truck but didn't have her license yet!

The publicist left me, my camera dude and her alone in that barn for 45-60 minutes. We talked about tons of stuff....

even at that age, she was very impressive. Even if the movie wasn't. Ha ha.

Thank you @LarryCarroll for sharing your story.

Thanks to fan @robkris13  :)

'Sils Maria' to start filming from 22 August - 4 October in Germany, Switzerland & Italy + more details on the film

Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart, Chloë Moretz, Daniel Brühl and Tom Sturridge shine in the cast of the first production by CG Cinéma

On Thursday August 22nd, the filming of Olivier Assayas’s 14th cinematographic feature film will begin: Sils Maria. A regular at big festivals (in competition in 2000, 2002 and 2004 in Cannes where he also presented the mini-series Carlos [trailer] out of competition in 2010, and Best Screenplay Prize in Venice last year with Something In The Air [trailer, film focus, festival scope]), the director brought together a first class international cast for his new opus:  French star Juliette Binoche (appreciated this year in Camille Claudel 1915), American actresses Kristen Stewart (famous all around the world since the Twilight saga) and Chloë Moretz (Hugo Cabret), German star Daniel Brühl (recently appreciated in Eva [trailer] and soon on screens in Rush) and British actor Tom Sturridge (Good Morning England).

Written by the director, the screenplay focuses on actress Maria Enders (Binoche). 20 years after becoming famous by playing the role of Sigrid, a character who fascinated that of Helena and led her to suicide, Maria, at the top of her international career, is asked to take part in the play again, but this time in the role of Helena.

Kristen Stewart will be the personal assistant of Maria, Chloë Moretz the young actress who takes over the role of Sigrid, Tom Sturridge her boyfriend and Daniel Brühl the theatre’s director.

Produced by Charles Gillibert (an experienced professional who worked on feature films by Dolan, Kiarostami, Kechiche, Salles and van Sant and already worked with Assayas twice) for the new Parisian company CG Cinéma, Sils Maria is coproduced by the Germans from Pallas Film, the Swiss company CAB Productions, Vortex Sutra, Arte France Cinéma, Orange Studio and RTS (Radio Télévision Suisse). Pre-purchased by ZDF, Canal+, NFP, Filmcoopi and IFC, the film is also backed by the Programme Media, Eurimages, the Franco-German mini coproduction treaty, Cinéforom, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and the BLS Südtirol Alto Adige Film Fund & Commission. The filming will take place in Germany, Switzerland and Italy until October 4. The French distribution will be handled by Les Films du Losange and international sales by MK2.

Video: Taylor Lautner mentions Kristen

Taylor mentions Kristen at 2.04mins

You've worked with Kristen Stewart in "Twilight" and Marie Avgeropoulos in "Tracers." Tell me what you can about these ladies.

I mean, they're similar in ways, and yet they're very different. Kristen and I are extremely close. I mean, we've worked together for five years, and we weren't filming together, we were promoting the movies together. The entire "Twilight" cast, we're all great friends now.

There wasn't any moment when you fell for her?

(Laughs) No, there wasn't. We're very, very good friends.
